Thinking of tomorrow's packaging requirements today
Packaging sparkling wine and wine in a variety of ways:
With the Innopack TLM, Rotkäppchen-Mumm is doubly well positioned. Adaptations for the retail trade and innovative new packaging concepts can both be implemented reliably and cost-effectively.
Rotkäppchen-Mumm now fulfils (almost) every one of its customers' wishes with an extensive and varied assortment – as well as with perfect quality and decades of experience and tradition. A packaging machine offering flexibility, quick format changes and excellent performance was needed to ensure that both large and small bottles are packed in appealing and diverse ways. For this reason, only the Innopack TLM from the two leading system manufacturers, came into consideration.
Solution
A worthwhile investment: more formats, twice the speed
Rotkäppchen-Mumm now fulfils (almost) every one of its customers' wishes with an extensive and varied assortment – as well as with perfect quality and decades of experience and tradition. A packaging machine offering flexibility, quick format changes and excellent performance was needed to ensure that both large and small bottles are packed in appealing and diverse ways. For this reason, only the Innopack TLM from the two leading system manufacturers, came into consideration.
From single gift-wrapped bottles to wrap-around cartons of 24
Three 200 ml bottles with slightly different shapes are packaged. The packaging variants range from batches to individual bottles into a gift pack, which are bundled into wrap-around cartons of 24 for ease of transport, to clusters of 4 bottles. With this in mind, the Innopack TLM will be able to pack 750 ml wine bottles, for example, quickly and securely in wrap-around cartons holding six bottles.
The demands of the trade are changing ever more rapidly. It was therefore extremely important for us to know that our new packaging machine would enable us to meet all the requirements for years to come.

Technical Details
The Transmodul as the connecting element
The Innopack TLM developed for Rotkäppchen-Mumm consists of a total of 13 sub-machines with a total length of 33 metres. They are operated depending on format and required capacity. In the case of gift packaging for the MMchen, for example, up to ten sub-machines can be used. In the first two sub-machines, F3 robots take up to 550 blanks per minute from the magazine, depending on the desired output. F2 robots pick up the individual packs, align them during transfer and place them onto a Transmodul for further processing. The tabs are glued on the way to the next sub-machine. There, F2 robots seal the underside of the gift packs, stand them up and place them in rows of two on another Transmodul line. The KHS packer feeds the Piccolo bottles and carefully places them into the open-top gift packs. In the next two sub-machines, four F2 robots close and seal the packaging and place it on one of two further Transmodul sections for pre-grouping.
Securely packed and sealed
Shortly before the end of the packaging process, the sales cartons come into play: similarly to the gift packages, they are unstacked, erected and placed on their own Transmodul line. In the penultimate sub-machine, two F2 robots lift and transfer the prepared MMchen into the outer cartons – in four groups of six products. The Schubert machine fills up to 23 sales cartons per minute, with three Transmodul lines working in parallel. To ensure that Rotkäppchen-Mumm can finally transport everything safely to its customers, the upper tabs of the large outer cartons are also glued and closed.
Overall Performance
- The output of the Innopack TLM depends on the number and type of bottles per carton
- 24 individual 200 ml bottles: 600 products per minute
- 24 gift packages of 1 or 2 bottles: 550 products per minute
- 6 clusters of 4 with 200 ml bottles: 480 products per minute
F3 robots destack the blanks for the gift packages from the magazine.
The KHS packer places the bottles into the erected gift packs positioned on the waiting Transmodul.
Before the gift packages are packed into the shipping cartons, an F2 robot closes the top.
F2 robots take the filled and sealed gift packages from the Transmodul and place them into the sales cartons.
Whether a cluster of four, a wrap-around carton or a carton of 24: the Innopack TLM is the sustainable and innovative packaging solution for the beverage industry.
Ready for delivery to customers: the sales cartons containing the gift packaging are sealed by F2 robots.
